The PPEL level rate is based upon TAXABLE VALUE, NOT ASSESSED VALUE.
Examples of actual impact of the Voted PPEL:
$150,000 = $99.16 per year
$250,000 = $152.40 per year
$400,000 = $247.73 per year
$600,000 = $374.85 per year
Many people would be paying even less than the amount in the above examples because they qualify for one or more of other exemptions (i.e. Homestead credit; 66 years and older tax credit; Military; Family Farm Credit)
The current voted PPEL will continue through 2027. The Missouri Valley School District is asking to renew this levy with NO increase in property taxes. The PPEL levy of $1.34 has been in place for many years as a result of prior voter approval of MVCSD’s voters, and this election is asking you to approve the levy for an additional 10-year period. This is not an increase to the levy rate; it is an extension of the period of time during which the levy can be utilized within the district’s budget.
The PPEL levy provides funds for transportation needs, technology improvements and replacement, general infrastructure improvements around the district campus for needs such as painting, tuckpointing, carpet and window repair and replacement, sidewalk repair, etc. The funds can not be used for staff salaries or benefits, nor can it be used for curriculum and instructional needs. This levy allows us to maintain our General Fund account for these needs.
The district understands the meaningful impact of even the correctly calculated amounts on our property owners, and we value accuracy and transparency in the dissemination of the facts surrounding this important levy. We invite you to contact the district office or the County Auditor’s office if you have any questions about the true calculation and impact of any property tax levy on your property. The tax impacts we have quoted in this message were provided to the district by the district’s financial advisor Piper Sandler & Co. of Des Moines. You are also welcome to reach out to their representative Matthew Gillaspie if you have questions that you do not feel comfortable asking of the district directly. His email is Matthew.Gillaspie@psc.com
As Superintendent, I would be happy to sit down and visit about our upcoming vote. Please call the District Office at 712-642-2706, Ext 4 to set up a meeting.
