Happy New Year and Welcome Back for our 2nd semester. We are excited to have our students back in the buildings and in the classrooms! We have begun the winter season and the good news is that the days are starting to get longer. The bad news is that the days and nights are colder and winter weather conditions are likely. Fortunately, we missed the snow and ice over the weekend, however, we will probably be experiencing winter weather conditions at some point, and as we move into the winter season, I want to take a moment to share our inclement weather policy and procedures. Student safety is our top priority. We closely monitor local weather forecasts and road conditions when hazardous winter weather is predicted. If we determine that conditions are unsafe for students and staff to travel to and from school, we will make the decision to close school. In the event that inclement weather requires us to close school, you will be notified through Infinite Campus School Messenger, as well as our District Website and Facebook. We will also share closing information with local media outlets; WOWT, Channel 6 and KETV, Channel 7. When MVCSD is closed due to weather, Little Reds will be closed as well. All extracurricular activities, athletics, and events scheduled for that day may also be cancelled. We will keep a watchful eye on the weather conditions and make the determination by the afternoon if evening activities will be cancelled. If we have a two-hour late start, MVCSD buses will pick up the students two hours later than regularly scheduled bus times. If you drive your child to school, you should plan to arrive two hours later than the regular drop off time. Early dismissal in the afternoon due to inclement weather will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Parents/Guardians will be notified by Infinite Campus School Messenger, Facebook, and local news channels (Channel 6 and Channel 7) if the students will be sent home early. Please review your Infinite Campus account to ensure your current phone number(s) is accurate. All evening activities will be canceled if we dismiss early due to inclement weather. Little Reds daycare will also close early to ensure all of our staff will get home safely. We never take school closures lightly, understanding the impact they have on families. Our goal is to make the safest choice possible for our students and staff while balancing the importance of learning time. As we head into winter, I encourage all families to prepare for the possibility of future school closures and delays. We encourage you to make arrangements now for childcare, transportation adjustments, and schedule changes. We appreciate your patience and flexibility when inclement weather strikes. Our staff will always work hard to make timely closure decisions with your child’s safety as the driving factor. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached via email at cgochenour@movalleycsd.org or by phone at 712-642-2706, Ext 4. I wish you and your family a safe, healthy winter season! Sincerely, Mrs. Gochenour Superintendent

Good Morning, As you may know the week of January 27th is national Coaches vs. Cancer Week. Basketball coaches, players, and fans at all levels will be showing out to raise money and bring awareness to all forms of cancer. Our plan is to take part in this nationwide initiative at the home varsity basketball games on 1/28 @ Treynor. The Western Iowa Conference athletic directors have come together to generate one conference wide t-shirt order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The hope being that each school’s fans will show up representing their school color on the games their teams play that week. Utilizing the link below please access the Coaches vs. Cancer Store. Here is a link to the store: https://anytimetees.chipply.com/coachesvscancer/?action=viewall *Please note that each conference school has a specific section within the store and that all proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society. It is imperative that you order under the section designated to our school in order to receive your t-shirt (See picture below). The store is now open and will close on 12/22/2024. All orders will be available for pick-up at the school the week of 1/13. Further communication will take place once the shirts have been delivered. Go Big Reds! Nate McDonald MS Principal/AD

Dear Missouri Valley Families, We are excited to announce an important update regarding how we stream our students' events and performances! Over the next few weeks, our district will transition from NFHS to HUDL as our streaming provider. This decision was made after carefully evaluating feedback and addressing the technical difficulties many experienced with NFHS. HUDL offers enhanced technical support and greater capabilities, which will help us provide a more reliable and enjoyable viewing experience. We also believe HUDL will enable us to showcase even more of our students competing and performing in the future. As we work to make this transition as smooth as possible, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to stream tonight’s event. However, please know that our team is working diligently to have HUDL up and running as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. Additionally, we understand that some spectators have already purchased NFHS subscriptions for this school year. To ensure fairness and avoid charging spectators twice, the district has decided not to charge for the HUDL service for the 2024-2025 school year. This reflects our commitment to delivering a high-quality product for our community without creating additional costs. Details on how to access HUDL streams will be shared soon. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at nmcdonald@movalleycsd.org. Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide the best for our students, families, and supporters. Go Big Reds! Nate McDonald Athletic Director

8th grade Literacy used the Kagan structure “rotating lines” to present final project on character traits and curiosity. This structure allows 50% to present at one time while 50% are learning new insights. Then as a whole group students share out new information they learned from their peers. #MVPride

Dear Missouri Valley Community School District Parents and Guardians, I hope this message finds you well. As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students, the Missouri Valley Safety Team, along with the Missouri Valley Police Department and Harrison County Sheriff's Department, will be working together to conduct a Reunification Walkthrough Drill for students in the Little Reds Room, Head Start, and grades K-5 on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 8:30am. This drill is a proactive measure to ensure that our staff, students, and families are well-prepared for any unforeseen circumstances that may require a reunification process. During the Reunification Walkthrough Drill, students in the Little Reds Room, Head Start, and grades K-5 will be transported via MVCSD buses to a predetermined off-site location. This exercise allows us to practice our evacuation and transportation procedures needed when a Standard Reunification Method is needed. We will be assessing our evacuation process, our transportation process, and our location space. Please take note of the following important details regarding the Reunification Walkthrough Drill: Date: Wednesday, October 16, 2024 Time: 8:20 am - 10:30 am Location: St. Pat’s Catholic Church & Houdek Center If your student is going to arrive after 8:20 or will need to leave during the drill, we ask that your child not arrive at school until the Reunification Drill is completed at 10:30. With prior communication the absence will not count towards their attendance. In the event of an actual emergency requiring reunification, information and instructions will be communicated through our established communication channels, including email, text messages, and the school website. We understand that reunification drills may raise questions or concerns. Please be assured that this exercise is part of our commitment to enhancing the safety and preparedness of our school community. If you have any specific concerns or questions, feel free to contact the District Office at 712-642-2706, Ext 4, or email Mrs. Gochenour at cgochenour@movalleycsd.org. I appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to ensure the well-being of our students. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Christi Gochenour Superintendent Missouri Valley Community School District

MV Big Red Community, We wanted to let you know about a situation that occurred. Sunday evening, Our administration was notified by a parent that a possible threat was made through digital communication. Our staff and law enforcement partners immediately began investigating and determined that NO THREAT was made towards the school, staff, or school. Thanks to generous donations from Performance Ag and Logan State Bank, all Missouri Valley students can attend events free of charge this year. To gain entry, students simply need to check in at the ticket booth, provide their name to the ticket taker, and receive a hand stamp after their name is crossed off the student list. All elementary students are required to have a parent/guardian with them to gain entry into the event and they must supervise them throughout the time they are at the event. #MVPride
