7th and 8th grade Literacy classes used two activities for “Think About it Thursday.” Students used grid perplexor puzzled to determine the answer to the riddles using deductive reasoning and logic skills. Students also used Breakout EDU to unlock puzzles using literacy skills to infer the order or sequence of puzzles. #MVPride

On Tuesday the Special Olympics athletes traveled to Maplewood Lanes to compete in bowling. The team brought back four hard-earned medals and had a few athletes advance to the State competition in November. Good work athletes!
Mrs. Goodrich’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade vocal music classes have been working at reading, practicing, and performing various rhythms. They are also preparing selections for their fall concert in November. #MVPride
7th Grade Literacy has been working on theme, character traits, and author’s craft. Today they worked on a bio-poem template about themselves. Then they will apply knowledge from this template to create a bio-poem about a character in our latest reading.
8th grade Literacy used www.blooket.com to work on mastering language skills and conventions of written language (capitalization and punctuation). Students competed in a timed activity called “Crypto-hack”. The person who collects/hacks the most crypto after 6 minutes is the winner. Points are based on accuracy and speed (and luck too). Students use this activity as a warm-up activity at the beginning of class.
If your children walk to school, please avoid Superior, St. Clair, and Lynn Streets between 6th and 8th Streets due to construction.
We are almost to Homecoming Week! Please take a look at the flyers for the kick-off event on Sunday and the dress-up days next week for MVMS and MVHS. This year's theme: Lights, Camera, Action! #MVPride
7th grade computer science students were introduced to the open-ended, collaborative, and creative problem-solving process that they will use throughout the quarter. Students worked in teams to design paper towers that can stand as high as possible. Teams had two rounds to work on their towers, with the goal of trying to go higher than they did in the first round. This activity sets the stage for learning the steps of the problem-solving process in future lessons.
Computer Science Standards
* Compare and refine multiple algorithms for the same task and determine which is most appropriate.
* Decompose problems into smaller, manageable sub problems to facilitate the program development process.
*Take on varying roles, with teacher guidance, when collaborating with peers during the design, implementation and review stages of program development.

The Western Iowa Conference (WIC) has had to make the hard decision to increase our admission fees for our varsity events to $7 per person for both students and adults.
For this next year, we will offer the ability to pay at the gate with a credit card and cash. There will be no "convenience fee" added on if you pay at the gate with a credit card.
Superintendent Mrs. Gochenour recently emailed all families to help further explain the conference decision.
